That's why it's so important to decide how to decide. What do you want to do? You're the expert. How we're going to decide both at the full meeting level than a workshop meeting like the one you described with 50 people or a status update meeting at the agenda item by agenda item level is so important. Consensus does not mean compromise to sub-optimize the quality of the decision. People won't buy in if they don't get to weigh in. They'll support the decision, but it doesn't mean we get to drive our opinion through the group. That is the art of facilitating a collaborative conversation - setting up the container for decision-making, and having a good process structure to hear from all voices.
